DenaHolperthey/themOakland2021WeeklyI started learning CI with Rene Alvarez and love their teaching style. I’ve been attending contact classes & jams via Interkinected & Thursday jam at Finnish Hall in Berkeley for the past three years but haven’t taken a contact intensive workshop before.I’d like to expand my contact moves knowledge, to learn different ways to flow with people, to lift, to get out of a lift in different ways.
I also want to know more about the form and rules/language/methodology of contact improv so that I can practice it more intentionally.

EricDouglasHe/HimSan Diego20174-5 intensives / year, average 1 jam / weekAnjelika Doniy, Olivia Shaffer, Manuel Matsya are some of my favourite teachers. I have also taken a couple workshops with Andrew in Vancouver and Salt Spring.

I’ve been to around 20 festivals on salt spring island, LBCI, San Pancho CI festival, I’ve danced regularly at Edam dance.
– Release: finding layers of unnecessary tension I hold while dancing
– Solo practice: increasing available pathways in my solo dance. Most of my dance practice has been exploring and listening to gravity as the basis for movement. I desire finding more range in my solo dance.
– Modelling master teachers: I teach classes and workshops in Nelson BC. A large focus of my time at workshops is learning from the teaching styles and sequencing of skilled CI teachers.

This year, I have been enjoying CI events on salt spring island (including one with Andrew Hardwood), Marcus Van Durens workshop in Berkeley, the long beach festival, and san pancho (with Nita Little).
I’m interested in learning, understanding, and exploring what these teachers have to offer. I’d like to follow the threads of curiosity that emerge from their teaching into my practice. Both the weekend and 5 day, please. March. 16th -22nd.

RebeccaJanovicSheBerkeley2017Multiple times a weekJurij Konjar loved his 3 week winter term workshop at Oberlin. Appreciated being part of Nancy’s last January workshopFor the last several months I have been practicing contact in jam settings but not classes. I am excited to learn with teachers who teach largely via principles and are not so heavy on demonstrating and repeating technique/form. I am eager to enter dances/dancing through the lens of simple and specific prompts which open up the dancing possibilities but don’t overly define them.5 day

I’m really excited to deepen my practice of CI, right now I’m especially wanting to become more comfortable falling, and of course always want to practice listening and moving from that (rather than just following, which I often find I do).Resiliency and Resourcefulness in Contact Improvisation
ZevBennettHimBerkeleyMany years ago through my modern dance training! And then through a very close friendAbout 3 times a week.I’ve loved Scott Wells’s teaching. I’ve also greatly enjoyed axis syllabus training as well One if my most influential experiences on my improvisational dance came in a two week training with the nomad dance troupe in Italy.I would love to have some deep practice is sensing and reacting to the actual information of the dance. While at the same time learning what can be available and then letting the dance choose what happens.March 16-17 workshop

taishapaggettthey/\sheRiverside, CA2 + decades agoreturning to 2-3x monthly practice after a multi-yearlong break and injuriesI had my first workshop with Nita Little recently, Daniel Halkin, Jeff Wallace, and numerous other folx from the Chicago CI community, Kirstie Simson… The classes I’ve taken with Chris Aiken over the years. What I appreciate from these teachers is how/when they contextualize CI as a philosophical blueprint for embodied relational experience as much as a series of skills to be mastered. To deepen my practice and find my way through some physical obstacles; In the long run, to return to teaching CI again, for my institution and for the development of BIPOC and queer-centered CI spaces.Aiken, Chung and Harwood weekend + weeklong workshops 3/16-22

HannahHindleyShe/herSonoma CountyMy partner loves CI and I’ve been curiousI done a lot of partner dancing, and I’ve informally dabbled in CI and CI adjacent things with my partner, but this will be my first workshop.I’ve had wonderful teachers in Blues and swing, and I recently enjoyed attending a Brazilian Zouk workshopI’d love to tune into the heart of CI and really get a deeper sense for what it is and how to use my body in this way. I’m used to partner dancing and really enjoy being a follow, so I’d like to feel out other dynamics and ways of engaging with dance partners. I’d also like to learn attention and communication tools that I can bring to other dancefloors and to my partnership. The 2-day weekend workshop
